I remember when Roger stopped by the ‘Leaning House of Dobbs’. I had stayed home because of a migraine. Joe asked if the music would bother me, I said no, it probably would make me feel better. They played for hours. I began to feel better; I suppose it was like medicine to me. ❤️‍🩹🥰. I miss those days of music of laughter. Joe was a good friend and loved hearing his Fiddle and having his friends stop by to play. 🎻🪕.

Oh, my goodness, Edwina, what a wonderful story! Thank you so much for sharing that.

We all very much admired the affinity that Joe and Roger shared, and, you know, it was there from the very beginning. David, Roger and I met Joe in the spring of 1975 and it was amazing how he and Roger gravitated to each other from from the start. Here's an example, a tune of a party tape we recorded... what? I guess it was 45 years ago now! It's Joe and Rog doing "Jerusalem Ridge," which they had just worked out:

Aw, buddy, thank you so much for those wonderful comments! It was truly a magical — sad, funny, crazy, wonderful — afternoon. I think we sang with lumps in our throats and the tears in our eyes were from both sadness and laughter. I miss Roger every day.

Right after that session, Roger went into some deep and serious treatment that just wore him out, poor guy. But I’ll never forget how, even in the worst of it, he often found humor, though it was sometimes macabre humor. Like a few months after the chemo had started, Roger called me to say, “Hey, Charlie, I wrote a song!” Then he sent me this, which he called “Chemo Blues,” and we put on one of the podcasts. It’s so perfectly Roger, I think:

Isn’t that something? Would it be alright if I forwarded this to a friend who has been battling the big C for some time? He may appreciate it.

Absolutely -- share away! Rog would pleased, I think, to know that his tune gave somebody else a smile.
