Michelle Honored by Her Alma Mater
#534 / Video Extra
Michelle Hoge, The Flood’s perennial “chick singer” (the title bestowed on her by the late Joe Dobbs), was featured today by her alma mater’s radio station in its celebrated “Classroom Concerts” series, hosted by John Boggess and Alyson Messinger, as seen in the video above.
For the do, she asked her guys in The Flood to join her for a short set of swing tunes.
Michelle Reflects
As a student in the 1990s at Marshall University, Michelle was a journalism student of Dr. Chuck Bailey, faculty manager of WMUL-FM, where Michelle got her first taste of life as a broadcaster.
When WMUL — West Virginia’s first public radio station — observed its birthday today (happy 64th, folks!), Dr. Bailey’s current students invited alumni back to campus to share their own college memories.
The above video, filmed in the WMUL television studio, opens with Michelle’s performance of “Sunny Side of the Street,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “St. Louis Blues,” “All of Me” and “My Blue Heaven.”
After the set, Michelle sits down with John and Alyson to talk about her days at Marshall as well as her time with The Flood.
What a grand time for all involved. Michelle continues to make memories wherever she goes.

Congratulations Michelle! 💖💙
