We’re happy to be invited to help spread the word about a cool addition to our Cabell County community: The new Booktenders bookstore in historic downtown Barboursville.
The Flood is coming for an informal jam session on Sunday, Nov. 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the store, 621 Central Ave., Barboursville. Join us! For complete details of the do, see the Facebook “Events” page that our bandmate Veezy set up — click here.
About the Venue
The store was opened earlier this year by Mandee Cunningham and Ashley Skeen, whom you can meet right now on their Facebook page.
They even have a little video to show you around the neighborhood. Click here to see that.
For next Sunday’s jam, The Flood will settle down in the cozy lounge space in the back of Booktenders, the room the store created to encourage book clubs to meet.
While listening to the tunes, you can sit in the lounge with us, or you can browse the shelves, maybe start your holiday shopping for the book lovers on your list. The store specializes in the newest, hippest titles. A couple of bookcases in the front of the store are dedicated to Appalachian authors. Throughout are assorted reader/writer gifts.
It also serves the thirsty. Whether you’re shopping or listening, you’ll want to check out the drinks. Booktenders has a selection of coffees, teas, beer and wine.
About That Name
Wondering about the origin of the store’s handle?
Speaking with Herald-Dispatch business writer Fred Pace last December before the store opened, Ashley noted, “We both worked at Summit Beer Station as bartenders for the past seven years, hence the name.” She added that she and Mandee share a passion for reading. “Bookstores are our happy place.”
Drop by for Flood Sunday next week and we’ll make it even a little happier.
