As we enter this last week before Christmas, here’s a little early gift for you. It is a free virtual Christmas show that we’ve culled from bits of audio recorded over the past dozen years by The Flood as well as by a half dozen Flood friends. The guest artists include Ritch Collins, Ron Sowell, Jim Rumbaugh, Karen Combs, Mike Smith and Randy Brown.
For our holiday blend, we've stirred traditional tunes — such as Michelle Lewis’s lovely renditions of “The Christmas Song,” “In the Bleak Mid Winter” and “What Child Is This?” — in with a nice mix of original compositions. For instance, just listen to Paul Callicoat’s beautiful reflections on a child’s Christmas in Huntington! We also reach back into the archives for some naughty and nice bits from Floodster Emeritus Dave Ball. For the former, he offers his special version of a Bob Rivers Christmas parody, for the latter a taste of a song by the late Flood friend Steve Eschleman called, “That’s Why I Say ‘Happy Holidays.’”
Of course, we also have to blend in some holiday blues. We start with Paul Martin’s take on a Charles Brown classic, leading the way to Jim Rumbaugh’s original, “Got My Yule Log Burning” and Karen Combs’ “Merry Christmas, Baby.”
And what’s Christmas without tall tales? We have stories by Charlie Bowen, Sam St. Clair and Joe Dobbs. Shoot, we even have a Christmas sing-along. And throughout the 45-minute set we are ably backed by the usual suspects, including Doug Chaffin, Randy Hamilton, David Peyton and Jacob Scarr.
So, c'mon along. Amid the bustle and the hustle of this frazzled last week, slow down, click in for a sip or two of our holiday brew and jingle all the way with us to Christmas!
