The Flood’s not a polka band, but when we were booked for Oktoberfest, our harmonicat Sam St. Clair declared that we are the next best thing: A folka band! And last night the Flood folk rolled out their barrel of fun at a favorite local venue, Huntington’s Bahnhof - Wvrsthaus & Biergarten.
Above — with video and still photos from Pamela Bowen, Stewart Schneider, Mark Hinchman and Sandy Johnson Bailey — you can see and hear 15 minutes from the night’s festivities.
Reunion
As you see in the video, the three-hour gig featured a reunion with Floodster Emerita Michelle Hoge, who was visiting from her Loveland, OH, home.
Having our original “Chick Singer” back in the fold for the evening enabled us to offer a wider variety of tunes, ranging from swing numbers like “Moonglow” to ballads like “Summertime,” from instrumentals like “Drive In” to folk songs like “Wayfarin’ Stranger.”
Dancers
We had dancers in front of the bandstand throughout the evening, led by our favorite “dancin’ doctors,” Marshall professors Bonnie Lawrence and Clayton Brooks.
Stealing the show, though, was the youngest Flood fan in the room. Danny Cox’s grand niece, Henzleigh, can be seen dancing with The Docs in the final frames of the video, a moment when we all got in touch with our inner oompah….
