Floodin' the Keith
#562 / News Briefs
We were honored this week to be invited to play a 90-minute set in the mezzanine of the historic Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center in downtown Huntington.
Thursday night’s occasion was a “Business After Hours” gathering sponsored by the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce at which more than 200 folks came to gaze at the magnificently restored theater.
The Keith, which opened its doors in 1928, today is the only fully intact atmospheric theater in the United States to be designed by Scottish-born American architect Thomas Lamb.
It features a Mediterranean blue dome, Botticino marble staircases and ornate Spanish balconies that create a magical atmosphere for patrons.
Initially built to showcase vaudeville performances, the theater today has returned to its roots as a live performance venue.
We thank the chamber and the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center for letting The Flood be part of the evening. And special thanks to Mark Williams and Kaitlyn Fleming for the pictures. Click here for a galley of Mark’s photos from the night.
And in Other Theater News…
After the Keith gig, we awoke to the news that “These Boys,” the new documentary film about the 50-year history of the band, has been selected as a semi-finalist in the Austin International Art Festival. Onto the next round! Stay tuned.
AIAF is a seasonal, online-based festival celebrating independent filmmaking, including short and feature-length programs from around the world.
Selected films are evaluated privately by a jury of expert members of cinema, from the university environment, the working and professional background of cinema and the well-known cinema distributors.
As reported earlier, “These Boys” director Randy Yohe already has been honored in France by the Cine Paris Film Festival, an international event uniting artists, creatives and filmmakers and focusing on discovery of new talents and works.
Right now “These Boys” is working its way through film festivals like Austin International and Cine Paris, but we look forward to sharing the completed film with everyone later this year. We’ll keep you posted.
