Flood Documentary Wins Its First Film Award
#554 / News Extra!
We have just learned that The Flood’s new documentary film, These Boys, has won its first award. The Cine Paris Film Festival has honored Randy Yohe, the film’s director.
Cine Paris is an international film festival uniting artists, creatives and filmmakers, focusing on discovering new talents and works. A selection of monthly participants and winners are presented at the live screenings at French venues around Paris, such as the Latin Quarter’s beloved Cinéma Les 3 Luxembourg art house.
The festival’s jury includes industry professionals from different sectors and companies, including Cineberg Germany, Sony and others. Each month’s competition winners are announced online and a selection of those movies is shown live at the event each year.
About the Film
Director Yohe and his superb cinematographer Anthony Dean began working on These Boys in mid-2024 by filming the band as it partied with friends and neighbors at the Bowen House on a summer evening.
During the festivities, the pair interviewed current and former Floodsters and fans to capture the 50-year history of the band and to reminisce about band mates who have passed on.
Blending footage of the interviews and the partying with vintage audio and video from the band’s long and deep archives, cinematographer Dean completed the work last fall.
We’ve been keeping all this under wraps — only a small circle of friends has known about These Boys working its way through several film festivals, like Cine Paris — but we look forward to sharing the completed film with everyone later this year. We’ll keep you posted.
Meanwhile, Anthony has given us the above These Boys trailer, featuring a snippet of Randy’s interview with Flood front man Charlie Bowen.
StoryCorps Teaser
While Dean was starting work on the film’s cinematography, Yohe and Bowen took a side trip, visiting with Sam Berkrot and National Public Radio’s “StoryCorps” team while it was camped on the Marshall University campus in the early autumn of 2024.
Randy’s 30-minute interview of Charlie in StoryCorps’ cool Airstream trailer discussed The 1937 Flood story and the early work on the film that would become These Boys. Click the button below to hear it:

Congratulations Charles. You certainly deserve this award. You, and the guys, but particularly you, put so much hard work into everything you do "Flood-wise". You and The Flood are an inspiration.
Are you able to let me have a copy fo the short trailer that I can add the the next Grateful Fred Newsletter? No worries if that's not possible but I'd love to let my Fredhead audience know about the film.
Very cool.! Congrats! Can't wait to see the entire film.
