We are thrilled to announce our old buddy Douglas Eye (aka Doug Imbrogno) will be helping us celebrate spring’s arrival when he joins us as the guest artist for our big Floodango bash at Alchemy Theatre on Sunday afternoon, April 21.
We in The Flood’ve been digging Doug for … what? Decades! We’ve all partied together. He’s been in the room at jam sessions and gigs. We’ve shared the stage with him at more shows than we can remember. The most recent was last New Year’s Eve!
If you were at our “Flood at 50” birthday celebration on Dec. 31 at Alchemy, you know what a powerhouse of a performer Douglas is. Here is an example:
It was a magical moment in his opening number when he took the stage with a Flood pickup band. Floodster emerita Michelle Hoge sang harmony and Dave “Bub” Ball played bass, while current Floodsters Danny Cox was on guitar and Sam St. Clair was on harps.
From what you hear in that video, you’d never guess that Douglas also was teaching the rest of the folks the tune (“Love Is the Water that Wears Down the Rock”) as they went along!
Incidentally, on his Facebook page, Douglas has posted video of additional tunes from his New Year’s Eve set. Here are links to “Orphan Girl” and to “Enjoy Yourself.”
Douglas Over the Years
As we say, we’ve been knowing Doug for a long time. Back in the late ‘70s, he bought his first good guitar from the late Joe Dobbs’s then-new Fret ‘n Fiddle music store when it was still in Huntington.
In those days, Douglas was a newly minted reporter at Huntington’s Herald -Dispatch newspaper, working in the same newsroom with Flood founders Dave Peyton and Charlie and Pamela Bowen.
Years after that, Douglas also was a treasured regular at the gatherings during The Flood’s two years of weekly parties in 2010-12, as covered in an earlier article here.
Pamela’s filming of those party performances were the foundation for this beloved “Pajama Jam” video, which we released during the Covid-19 pandemic quarantine months in early 2020:
